Hey all, I started out on a serious quest for some philosophical knowledge that would help me be happier, more focused on what I needed to do, and generally a better person. And you know, it's been a pretty good quest as far as such things go. Now, I'm trying to record what I've learned and iron out the nuances. I'm also just really enjoying learning about new people and being introduced to new ideas, new ways of looking at the world.

I'm in Santa Monica, running a business, going to grad school at UCLA. I have a lot fun going out clubbing, playing beach volleyball, watching way too much TV, and just doing the every day stuff.

Philosophically, because just about all my journal entries are about how I do, want to, should live my life, I'm a big fan of Nietzche and Aristotle. I've studied a good bit of philosophy independently. I can't stand real academic philosophy though, becuase I feel that they focus on liguistic trivia. I mean, who cares if you write a paper claiming that "sarcasm negates the meaning of the words said sarcastically"? This passes for philosophy? Where's the impact? The engagement of real human dilemmas and issues? The seeking of knowledge that will make people happier, more functional, and peaceful? These are the things that really matter to me...that's the type of knowledge I really care for. (So I also don't much care for the questions about how we might all just be brains in bottles, tricked into thinking our world is reality.)

Who cares? Real or illusion, this reality is *ours*. I choose to focus on how to use it best, while it's still mine. As such, I'm very interested in psychology, literature, economics, ethics, politics, business, music. I break up, in the way I see things, the world in to the ideas of how things work and the ideas of how things are meaningful to us. I love music and literature because they relate to what I care about. I get completely caught up in economics, politics, and business because they cover how we can progress and *practically* make the world better for everyone, without just bitching how other people should do more.
